Dmetri Smith-Nevels' Educational Background

My Educational Background

I am a third generation teacher, so I know firsthand the importance of education and the great influence a teacher can have on a student’s life. I chose to become a teacher for two reasons. First, I love showing people things they never knew they didn’t know. Secondly, I love history. Pick any era, any region, and you will surely find a story worth telling.

I earned my bachelor’s degree in history from Mercer University in Macon, Georgia. I also had a concentration in social sciences and earned my teacher certification through this institution. I am certified in Georgia and North Carolina to teach all social studies courses for grades 6 through 12. I am also certified to teach gifted students and English Language Learners.

My greatest professional accomplishment so far was the completion of my Master of Arts degree in history at Georgia College and State University in Milledgeville, Georgia. Doing original research to complete my thesis not only gave me a grass roots view of history, but it also helped me to better instruct my students in their research.
